MLK Viaduct Replacement, ODOT, Portland, OR (PB)

Design Advisory Committee member advocating for contextual landmark quality gateway structure. “Your work on the MLK project has been greatly appreciated and was critical to our getting to our current design. Your knowledge and sensitivity to multimodal balancing, urban design, and architectural form were demonstrated during the MLK project, I would like to see you helping us on these bridge projects.” Mark Wigg, ODOT Project Director.

Milwaukie Vision Plan, City of Milwaukie, OR (MAP)

Merrick synthesized urban design themes from city visioning workshop with Peter Calthorpe and Associates.

Regional Rail Summit LRT Station Area Planning, City of Portland/Trimet (PB)

Merrick planned and led a workshop of planners, engineers, architects, and citizen activists in the process of developing a light rail station and transit oriented development in the vicinity of a proposed Tacoma station. 

North/South Corridor Study, City of Milwaukie, OR and Metro (DEA)

Merrick managed five discipline research team at DEA for LRT corridor alternatives analysis.

Regional Rail Charette, City of Milwaukie/Trimet, OR (PB)

Merrick initiated and led a multi-disciplinary team to develop concepts for alternative track alignments and station area analysis for in city inter-modal stations. Highly successful product won praise from event planners and was displayed at the conference and in public buildings.  Firms image was raised in the community and led to later transit related planning, architectural, and engineering projects.

Downtown Tacoma to Waterfront Transport Connections, Pierce County Transit District, WA (HNTB)

Merrick led team to develop and illustrate pedestrian and transit alternatives for connecting the waterfront's recreational, commercial, and ferry terminal facilities to the commercial core across the highway, rail lines, and elevation changes.

Portland Pedestrian Advisory Committee Representative, PBOT, Portland, OR (PB)

As PAC Chair for 12 years, served as PAC representative on stakeholder advisories for the new MLK Viaduct, Columbia River Crossing, Central City Wayfinding, Portland Transit Mall Revitalization, Central Eastside River Access, Portland Pedestrian Guide, and PBOT Budget and Mission CACs.
